What is GeoMinesweeper?
GeoMinesweeper is a strategy puzzle game that places the classic Minesweeper mechanic on real-world geographic locations. Instead of an abstract grid, each map represents an actual place — a strait, a sea, a region — with its own shape, scale, and strategic significance.
The game was inspired by real geopolitical events: the prospect of mine placement in the Strait of Hormuz in 2026 sparked the concept. What would it look like to actually navigate a minefield in these waters? The answer became a game.
You play the same familiar rules — reveal cells, flag mines, use numbers to deduce safe zones — but the stakes feel different when the board is the Strait of Hormuz or a contested maritime corridor.

The timeless minesweeper experience on a clean grid. Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert — pure logic, no distractions.
Geo Maps
Curated real-world locations turned into unique minefields. Each map has a distinct shape derived from actual geography.

A persistent global battlefield. Clear territories across the entire world map and compete with players everywhere.

Design Pillars
Faithful Win98 Aesthetic
The game board preserves the pixel-perfect look of the original Windows 98 Minesweeper — bevels, LCD digit counter, classic color palette — while the surrounding UI is clean and modern.
Anti-Cheat by Design
The server is authoritative. It owns all mine positions, timing, and win/loss determination. The client is render and input only — it never computes game outcomes. Scores on the leaderboard are verified.
Real-Time Feel
Game actions travel over WebSocket for sub-50 ms response times. Optimistic UI gives instant visual feedback while the server confirms each move.
No Account Required
Play anonymously — no sign-up needed to start a game. Create an account if you want your scores saved to the leaderboard and accessible across devices.
Availability
GeoMinesweeper is free to play, desktop-optimised, and requires no installation. It runs in any modern browser. There is no monetisation — no ads, no premium tiers.
